Signs of an Under-Performing Thyroid (Hint: Your Bloodwork May be Wrong)

Sluggish Thyroid – A Major Factor in Weight Gain

Your thyroid is a butterfly-shaped organ that wraps around the base of your throat. It is incredibly important for controlling metabolism and proper body weight.

The classic signs of a sluggish thyroid:

  • Weight Gain

  • Lethargy

  • Low-level Depression

  • Poor Quality Hair and Nails

  • Hair Loss

  • Fatigue

  • Dry/Cold Hands and Feet

  • Constipation

  • Need Lots of Sleep

The sad fact is, half of all people with hypothyroidism are never diagnosed.

Tests for hypothyroidism are incredibly unreliable. Why is that?

Much of it has to do with misinterpretation and misunderstanding of lab tests, particularly TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). Most physicians believe that if your TSH value is within the range of "normal," your thyroid is fine. But more and more physicians are discovering that the TSH value is grossly unreliable for diagnosing hypothyroidism. Reverse T3 is a better indicator of thyroid function, but most standard tests don't check that (you have to request it).

So, bloodwork is fairly inaccurate; however, energy testing via NRT will ALWAYS pick up on low thyroid function if it is present.

One of the most overweight clients who has come to see me had "perfectly normal" thyroid tests -- thankfully NRT revealed it was struggling quite a bit and we were able to address it.

Not to mention the fact that nearly everyone is deficient in iodine, which is literally the “fuel” for the thyroid. Iodized salt may contain enough iodine to prevent goiter (enlargement of the thyroid) but is grossly inadequate for actually allowing the thyroid to thrive and be perfectly healthy.

Top causes of low thyroid

  • An Allergy to the Thyroid itself. Symptoms of this typically include both hyperactive (anxiety, nervousness, trembling, fast heart rate, insomnia) and hypoactive symptoms (sluggish thinking, foggy brain, weight gain, need lots of sleep). While sometimes medically diagnosable, more than half of the thyroid allergies I have tested in my office had not been found by any other practitioner. Technically known as auto-immune thyroid, Hashimoto's, and Graves, this is COMPLETELY FIXABLE by clearing the allergy to the thyroid itself, which is something I do all the time in my practice. Once we clear the allergy the thyroid is able to calm down and with supplemental support can finally heal. Usually the client is then able to wean off thyroid medication (if they had been on it before).

  • Metal toxicity. (Metal/mercury fillings seem to leach down onto the thyroid more than any other organ in the body; possibly because the thyroid is not protected with a layer of fat as are other internal organs)

  • An ALLERGY to thyroid hormone T4. I find that pretty much all my clients on thyroid medications or who have low thyroid have become allergic to their own thyroid hormone, in which their body destroys it to a large degree. This for sure slows down their metabolism, sometimes to the point that unless they eat half of what a "normal" person would eat they cannot even lose weight!! Do you know anyone who falls into that category?

  • Low Iodine

  • Gluten Allergy

Solutions

Schedule an initial appointment which will check for what is affecting your thyroid, plus check all organs in your body. We will check to see if you are indeed allergic to your own thyroid and thyroid hormones; if so, our laser technology can CLEAR the allergies so your metabolism can normalize. The evaluation will also reveal your iodine level and any metal & chemical toxins, food allergies, and any other stressors. Rest assured that there is a true, lasting solution to a sluggish thyroid and metabolism!
